BlackRock is one of the largest investment management firms in the United Sates of America. BlackRock was founded as the Financial Management Group which was part of the private equity firm Blackstone Group in 1988. However, by 1992 the Financial Management Group had separated from Blackstone and rebranded themselves as BlackRock. In 1999 BlackRock was acquired by PNC Financial Services Group, and in 2006 Merrill Lynch Investment Managers acquired a large proportion of BlackRock shares, making them the single largest shareholder. BlackRock service clients from 19 officers around the world, and operates a wide range of businesses from portfolio management to technology and risk management solutions. BlackRock routinely take on interns and graduates for their programs every year and given BlackRock’s varied business areas, they are keen to take on interns and graduates who’s interest ranges from investment management to technology and to risk management. As a new partner to EUTIC this year, BlackRock will be holding an exclusive EUTIC networking event at their Edinburgh offices during the first term. We hope this is the start of a long relationship between EUTIC and BlackRock.
Fidelity Investments is an American investment company which of two independently but closely cooperative firms Fidelity Management and Reach LLC, founded in 1946, serving the domestic market, and Fidelity International, founded in 1969, which serves the international market. Fidelity provides clients with access to mutual funds, distributors, advisors, and discount brokerage services. This is the first year that EUTIC will be working with Fidelity. EUTIC is very fortunate to have representatives from Fidelity come to one of our main meetings during the first term to have an interactive discussion with our members regarding the stocks we hold, why we hold them, and to evaluate our performance of our fund. This will be followed by drinks afterward at a bar near Appleton Tower. Baillie Gifford is one of the leading independently investment management firms in the UK. The company is owned by 32 of it’s senior management, this is a structure that has been in existence for close to a century, and something that Baillie Gifford believes ensures stability. As of June 2009, Baillie Gifford had ₤43 billion pounds of assets under management. This is the first year that EUTIC will be working with Baillie Gifford. This is part of our strategic shift to focus more on Scotland’s financial industry.
